Bought & Sold

I was bought by the bright lights of London
Only now I think I understand
I made you walk to Soho from Camden
In the search of the promised land
I didn’t know the pubs closed early
We drank in the hotel instead
And dreamt of all we’d do tomorrow
And I almost felt okay again

I was sold by the cool city slickers
Staring through me on the underground
So much more refined in behaviour
Than inhabitants of other towns
Or so we thought; my bag was stolen
While we were eating chips beside the Thames
But in the midst of such a river
I could almost feel okay again

You were bought by the bright lights of London
You said that Brian was the best you’d had
But you only went with him cos he lives there
Anywhere else he wouldn’t stand a chance
I slept alone; I felt like crying
I thought that were more than friends
But I could hear the city breathing
And I almost felt okay again
